What is a spiritual awakening? The problem with such a question is that each person that has claimed to have had one will describe it in a different way. However, the majority of people that have claimed to have such an awakening describe it as an "experience". They have experienced something they have never experienced before and are eager to share what has happened in their life with anyone that will listen with an open mind.
The first thing that must be understood is that all people are different. No matter how you look at it or cut it, each and every person in the world is different in numerous ways. This is specifically true when it comes to the manner in which a person believes. Even if you were to put 500 people in a room, chances are that no two of them would believe the same in all areas of their life.
The problem with this is that many people grow frustrated because when they share their stories or experiences with others they don't feel that they truly understand where they are coming from. The fact of the matter is that they don't and most likely never will. For this to be possible they would have to share the exact experience with one another in the same manner. The chances of that taking place are slim to none.
Most people "live in their head" when it comes to spirituality. They understand the book aspect of their beliefs. They were raised to have specific beliefs or they simply believe what they have been taught or heard over the years. This is not spirituality. This is nothing more than habit.
A person who has a spiritual awakening no longer lives in their head. Instead they begin to feel things and see things in a different way. Their entire life can change for the better in a matter of moments. Though they may not completely understand what is occurring at the time, they will begin to see great changes in every aspect of their life.
Though there are many positive aspects involved in these types of awakenings there are also negative ones. Many people that have a spiritual awakening will use it in the wrong way. They attempt to force personal beliefs on others or will begin to do unmoral things in the name of their beliefs. These types of people have a very negative effect on those around them. They often times lose friends, family, and do things that are ill-advised. When this happens they can scare people away from learning more about their experience or from even wanting to have anything to do with it at all.
As long as a person is not causing harm to others or even to themselves, there is no reason not to be supportive when great change comes from such awakenings. You may not understand what is happening but if good is being done then what is the harm in it?
You never have to believe in faith or have a spiritual awakening yourself. But there is no reason why all people can't be supportive of those "experiences" others have that make them a better person.
